  • Investigation

    An examination to find out the cause of something which has happened.  

  • Invasion

    The entry of bacteria into a body, or the first attack of a disease. The entry of bacteria into the body; the spread of cancer into normal, nearby tissues or organs. The penetration of body tissues by infectious organisms or malignant cells. The infiltration and establishment of an organism within a host’s system.  

  • Invalidity

    The condition of being disabled.  

  • Invade

    To enter and spread gradually throughout a part of the body, e.g. the entry of a microorganism that causes disease.  

  • Inunction

    The act of rubbing an ointment into the skin so that the medicine in it is absorbed. The rubbing in with the fingers of an ointment or liniment. An ointment or medicated substance rubbed into the skin to secure a local or a more general systemic effect.    

  • Intussusception

    A condition in which part of the gastrointestinal tract becomes folded down inside the part beneath it, causing an obstruction and strangulation of the folded part. Telescoping of the small intestine, a painful digestive disorder common in young children, causing couc-like symptoms and often requiring surgical correction; also known by the more general term prolapse.…

  • Intumescence

    The swelling of an organ. The condition in which the cornea has imbibed more than its normal amount of water.  

  • Intubate

    To insert a tube into any organ or part of the body.  

  • Introverted

    Referring to someone who thinks only about himself or herself.  

  • Introduce

    To put something into something. To present two people to one another when they have never met before. To start anew way of doing something.
