    A nondrug pain reliever used in childbirth, e.g., hypnosis.  

  • Obsessive-compulsive reaction (Disorder)

    A neurosis.  

  • Obsessive

    A person suffering from a neurosis, characterized by the persistent recurrence of some irrational thought or idea, or by an attachment to or fixation on a particular or individual or object, obsessive compulsive reaction (disorder). Having or showing an obsession.  

  • Observing ego

    According to Selman’s theory of self, the represents a view of self that is characteristic of late childhood or early adolescence, when children tend to think that they have an inner self who is in charge of both their behavior and thoughts.  

  • Observer drift

    The tendency of two observers of an activity or a process to begin to agree with each other. This is regarded as a threat to reliable and valid behavior assessment.    

  • Observation techniques

    In education, structured methods for observing various aspects of a particular class or the entire school.  

  • Observational study

    A study in which the investigator does not manipulate any of the variables but simply observes their relationships as they occur. A type of study in which individuals are observed or certain outcomes are measured. No attempt is made to affect the outcome (for example, no treatment is given).  

  • Observational method

    A research technique in which people observe and describe subjects’ behavior.
