  • Nipple banking

    A surgical method by which a nipple is grafted to another part of the body until the breast is reconstructed and then replaced onto the reconstructed breast.  

  • Nigrostriatal dopamine system

    A group of dopamine-containing neurons that have their cell bodies in the midbrain and their terminals in the basal ganglia, which is part of the extrapyramidal motor system. This pathway deteriorates in Parkinson’s disease and on which antipsychotic drugs act to produce side effects resembling Parkinson’s disease.  

  • Nightingale pledge

    A pledge often recited at graduation ceremonies for nurses. An oath sometimes used by nurses on graduation from professional school. The pledge was formulated by a committee of the Farrand School of Nursing, Harper Hospital, Detroit, Michigan, of which Lystra Gretter was the chairperson, and was first administered to the graduating class in 1893.
