  • Neuromuscular tension

Buildup of energy in the nerves and muscles throughout the body sometimes caused by sexual arousal.

  • Neuromuscular maturation

Maturation involving the muscles and the skeletal system, the nerves that innervate them, and the motor areas of the brain that control voluntary muscle movement.

  • Neuromuscular efficiency

Control of muscles by the motor nerve stimuli in the most frugal manner.

  • Neuromuscular diseases

A group of muscle-destroying disorders that vary in hereditary pattern, age of onset, initial muscles attacked, and rate of progression.

  • Neurological

Pertaining to the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the nervous system. Referring to neurology.

  • Neurohypophysis

The posterior pituitary gland. Back lobe of the pituitary gland made up of nervous tissue. The lobe at the back of the pituitary gland, which secretes oxytocin and vasopressin. A neurological structure at the base of the hypothalamus including the infundibulum and the posterior lobe of the pituitary gland.

  • Neuroglia

Connective tissue forming the supporting structure of the nerve cells of the cerebrospinal axis. Supporting tissue of the nervous system. Type of cell, including astrocytes, microglia, and oligodendroglia, found in the nervous system; neuroglia serve as support and nourishment for the neurons, the cells involved in nerve impulse transmission. Supportive, non-nerve tissues of the peripheral…

  • Neurogenic shock

A state of shock as a result of generalized vasodilation, produced by action of the nervous system. A state of shock caused by bad news or an unpleasant surprise. A form of distributive shock due to decreased peripheral vascular resistance. Damage to either the brain or the spinal cord inhibits transmission of neural stimuli to…

  • Neurofibromatosis (NF)

A genetic (autosomal dominant) disorder characterized by skin lesions and cutaneous tumors. In some people, severe disfiguring may occur and skeletal abnormalities may also be present. There is no effective treatment at this time other than surgical correction. A hereditary condition in which a person has neurofibromata on the nerve trunks, limb plexuses or spinal…

  • Neuroendocrine system

The combined interaction of the nervous system and the endocrine system. A system in which the central nervous system and hormonal systems interact to control the function of organs and tissues. The system of dual control of certain activities of the body by means of both nerves and circulating hormones. The functioning of the autonomic…
