  • Mesophilic

    Descriptive of organisms that grow at medium range temperatures, esp. microorganisms. Describing organisms, especially bacteria, that grow best at temperatures of about 20-45°C. Compare psychrophilic, thermophilic.

    The duct system within the male embryo that gives rise to several internal reproductive structures.  

  • Meson

    An unstable nuclear particle that has a mass between that of an electron and a proton.  

  • Mesolimbic dopamine system

    A group of dopamine-containing neurons that have their cell bodies in the midbrain and their terminals in the forebrain; the plays an important role in the effect of antipsychotic medications.

    The middle tissue developed in the gastrula stage of the embryo lying between the ectoderm and the endoderm.   • Mesencephalon

    The midbrain, cerebrum. The small section of brain stem excluding the pons and medulla linking the hindbrain to the forebrain. The midbrain; one of three primitive cerebral vesicles from which develop the corpora quadrigemina, the crura cerebri, and the aqueduct of Sylvius.  

  • Merozygote

    A partial zygote produced by a partial genetic exchange in bacteria. A bacterial mechanism of gene transfer in which part of the genome, or chromosome complement, is transferred into an intact recipient cell.
