A chromatophore containing black pigment. A cell which contains melanin.

Melanocyte-stimulating hormone (MSH)
The hormone that regulates skin pigmentation. A hormone produced by the pituitary gland which causes darkening in the colour of the skin. A hormone of the anterior pituitary gland that causes pigmentation of the skin in humans.

The cell that produces melanin. Any cell which carries pigment. Melanin producing cell found throughout the basal layer of the epidermis and controlled by melanocyte-stimulating hormone. Megavitamin
Dosages of vitamins in amounts that far exceed the recommended daily allowances, megavitamin therapy. Term used to describe massive quantities of a specific nutrient when given for therapeutic purposes. A dose of one or more vitamins that is much in excess of the normal daily requirements (up to 10 times the recommended daily intake).
