Majority whip
A member of a legislative body appointed by the majority party to perform partisan political functions. Often the is second in command to the majority leader.

Majority rule
A legal principle in which the previous opinions of the courts have prevailed as precedent, minority rule.

The political party having the greatest number of members in the legislative body.

Majority opinion
The formal statement issued by the majority of judges in a particular court decision.

Majority leader
A member of the legislative body chosen by members of the majority party as their leader, minority leader.

Major depression
A condition in which a person experiences episodes of significant depression without periods of mania. A mood disorder characterized by a period of at least 2 weeks of depressed mood or the loss of interest or pleasure in nearly all activities.

Maintenance rehearsal
Rehearsal in which learned material is merely held in short-term memory q.v. for a while, elaborative rehearsal.

An agreement that provides for continued membership in a union for the duration of a contract.

Maintenance-motivation model (Herzberg)
A theory of motivation that suggests that work-related factors can be lumped into two categories: (a) maintenance factors that will not produce motivation but can prevent it and (b) factors that can encourage motivation.

A measure of the amount of exercise required to maintain a given level of conditioning.
