Lordotic curvature
A characteristic curve in the lower portion of the spinal column lordosis.

A position for sexual intercourse, common in primates, in which the female is bent over and the male enters her from the rear.

An arrangement of flagella at one or both ends of a cell. Having bunches of flagella at one end.

Loose association
A thought disorder in which the person has difficulty sticking to one topic and drifts from one thought to another in a disjointed manner. A symptom of schizophrenia.

Looking glass
The theory that a person’s self-concept is reflected in the way a person perceives how others look at him or her.

Look-alikes
Drugs sold legally, often through the mail or over the Internet, that are made to look like prescription drugs or illegal drugs, e.g., caffeine tablets that are made to look like amphetamine tablets.

Long-term memory store
According to Atkinson and Shiffrin, a storage area that is distinct from the short-term memory store and retains an indefinite amount of information indefinitely.

Long-run objectives
Targets to be achieved over an extended period of time. In management, this time span is usually set at 5-7 years.

Longitudinal research
Research that follows the same group of people and collects information from them repeatedly over a significant period of time.

Longitudinal fission
A split in the cytoplasm, the axis of which is parallel to the long axis of the cell.
