  • Identity diffusion type

    An adolescent who avoids thinking about goals, roles, and values, identity achievement type.  

  • Identity achievement type

    An adolescent who has made satisfying, self-chosen commitments relative to sex roles and occupational choice, identity diffusion type.  

  • Identical twins

    Two offspring developed from one ovum. Twins who are exactly the same in appearance because they developed from the same ovum. Same-sex twins who develop from the same fertilized egg and have identical inherited traits. Monozygotic twins, commonly known as identical twins, originate from a single fertilized ovum (egg) and share identical genes.  

  • Ideal weight

    Typically assumed to be the weight a person achieves at the age of 22-25. The weight that corresponds to the lowest mortality rate for individuals with a particular height, gender, and age.  

  • Ideal self

    A set of beliefs a person has concerning how he or she should behave and what he or she would like to be.  

  • Idealism

    The philosophy that holds that all knowledge is derived from ideas, emphasizing moral and spiritual reality.  

  • Ideal health

    The state in which a person’s maximum potentialities in the physical, mental, and social spheres are realized.  

  • Icterus

    Icterus

    The yellow appearance of the skin and other tissues due to an excessive accumulation of bile pigments. Yellow coloration of the conjunctivae which makes the sclerae also appear yellow. Another term for jaundice, a yellowing of the skin and whites of the eyes.

    A hereditary condition in which the skin does not form properly, resulting in a dry, non-inflammatory and scaly appearance.
