    Developed by Max A. Foldstein, a method of teaching the deaf. Speech and speech under-standing are achieved by training the auditory and tactile senses to recognize sound vibrations produced by the voice or sonorous instruments.

    Pertaining to the sense of hearing or to the science that is concerned with this sense. The science of sound. Relating to the sound or hearning.

    An instrument for testing hearing. The Politzer produces a clicking tone that can be heard up to about 45 feet.

    A false perception of some sounds such as ringing or hissing.

    In biology, without a body cavity or coelom.

    The milk-producing glands in the breast.  

  • Acid rain

    Rain containing nitric and sulfuric acid, formed when nitrogen and sulfur oxides from motor vehicles and coal-burning power plants and factories react with moisture in the atmosphere. Rain that contains nitric acid, sulfuric acid, or both.  

  • Acid-base blance

    The ratio of acidity and alkalinity of body fluids.  

  • Achromatin

    The substance of the cell nucleus that is not readily stained by staining agents. The weakly staining nucleoplasm of a cell nucleus.
