  • Bilious

    Containing bile; for example bilious vomiting is the vomiting of bile containing fluid. Related to bile or episodes of biliousness, named as such due to the presence of bile in vomit.

    Pertaining to the bacteria bacilli or to rod-like structures.

    A term used to describe the state of programmed cell death.  

  • Antivenom

    An agent used in the treatment of poisoning by animal toxins. A therapeutic substance used to counteract the toxic action(s) of a specific animal toxin or venom. They are normally sterilised, proteinaceous globulins extracted from the serum of animals, usually horses, immunised against the specific toxin/venom.   • Antiulcer

    Prevent or cure ulcers or irritation of the gastrointestinal tract.  

  • Antitumour

    Inhibiting the growth of tumour cells. A substance that counteracts tumour formation or tumour growth.  

  • Antituberculosis

    Effective in the treatment of tuberculosis, a condition due to Mycobacterium tuberculosis.  

  • Antitrichomonal

    Directed or effective against some protozoa (Trichomonas). Resistant to or lethal to trichomonads.  

  • Antithyroidal

    Opposing thyroid function.  

  • Antischistosomal

    Directed or effective against infection caused by trematode worms (schistosomes) which are parasitic in the blood of humans and other mammals.
