  • Trace

    Strand of vascular tissue connecting a leaf with the stem.  

  • Trabeculate

    Having the appearance of minute girders or crossed beams [rare term]. Related to or characteristic of a trabecula (a small, often beam-like, structure of connective tissue).  

  • Torus

    Ring-shaped cylinder; The receptacle of a flower, usually used when part of the receptacle is swollen into a distinct cushion (as in many Ochnaceae). The receptacle of the flower. An enlargement or protrusion that sticks out.  

  • Torulose

    Cylindrical; Cylindrical and laterally compressed, with contractions or swellings at irregular intervals, nearly the same as moniliform (which is more regular). (Torulose has been used (incorrectly) for regularly spaced contractions).  

  • Tortuous

    Twisted in different directions.

  • Toroid

    (2-dimensional shape) in the shape of a torus, a ring-shaped cylinder.  

  • Top-shaped

    (3-dimensional shape) inversely conical. Cone-shaped, the apex downward.  

  • Topotype

    (In nomenclature) not a true nomenclatural type but a specimen collected later than the date of publication of the taxon name in question from the type locality or from the area from which the species was described.  

  • Topodeme

    (Du Rietz) group of related individuals of a particular taxon occuring within a specific geographical area.
