    Nucellus

    The central part of the ovule, inside the integuments, containing diploid maternal tissue that gives rise to the haploid tissue of the female gametophyte.

    Hybrid form.  

  • Nothotaxon

    Unit of classification for hybrids, e.g. nothospecies or nothogenus.  

  • Nothospecies

    Hybrid species produced by crossing two species from the same genus, indicated by multiplication sign before the species epithet (e.g. Fallopia x bohemica) and often with the parent species then given in brackets (genus species x genus species).  

  • Nothogenus

    Hybrid genus produced by crossing (plants from) two different genera, indicated by a multiplication sign before the name (e.g. x Amarygia).    

  • Notched

    With a nick or cut from an otherwise entire edge. Having a notch at the point of attachment to the stem; sinuate.  

  • Notate

    With spots or lines, these often coloured.
