    With little knobs or knots. Formed of nodules. The state of having nodes or a node.

    Knobbly. Swollen or knotlike at intervals; marked by nodes or projections.

    Bearing nodes or producing nodes [obscure term].

    Bending and pointing downwards. Said of an organ when the summit hangs downward. Involuntary motion of the head downward, as when momentarily dozing.

    Relating to the node.  

  • Nocturnal

    At night (as in flowers opening in the night). Referring to or taking place at night. To or occurring in the night. Opposed to diurnal.  

  • Nitrogen-fixation

    The process by which bacteria (less often other organisms) convert atmospheric nitrogen into organic compounds that can be taken up by plants. This process often takes place in specialised nodules. Conversion of atmospheric nitrogen (N2 gas) into a soluble, biologically available form.
