  • Monad

    (Of pollen) solitary pollen grain, as opposed to tetrad or polyad.  

  • Module

    (Of orchids) a set of components that may be duplicated as parts of a larger unit, as in the sympodial architecture of the Dendrobieae, whose module (usually determinate) includes rhizome segment, roots, stem, leaves, and inflorescences.  

  • Modified

    Changed in shape or function.  

  • Mm

    Millimetre, 1/10th of a centimetre.  

  • Mitriform

    Cap-shaped and ending in a point, as in the mitre of a bishop. Shaped like the mitered cap worn by bishops during Catholic religious ceremonies; that is, swollen in the middle, tapered at the top sharply, but only somewhat tapered below, and with flattened (truncate) end with a broad germ pore.  

  • Misapplied

    (In nomenclature) name applied to a taxon that does not include the type of that name.  

  • Mis.

    Abbreviation for missus, meaning ‘sent by’.

    Very small. At the lower end of the range of sizes that can be seen with the naked eye.

    Of organic material impregnated with mineral.
