Screw‐retained
The use of a screw for retention of an abutment or a prosthesis.

Screw, teflon‐coated
Implant/prosthesis retention screw that has been modified with a polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) surface coating.

Act of turning a screw into its receptacle until resistance is met, resulting in increased tightness of the screw.

Screw preload
Clamping or stretching force that occurs across the interface of implant components being attached together via screw tightening.

Screw loosening
A prosthetic complication whereby a screw loses its preload, causing the loosening of a restoration or abutment.

Interface or junction of two prosthesis components connected by a screw.

Screw endosteal dental implant
A sterile device that is placed into the jaw bones for the attachment or retention of a tooth or teeth and whose configuration is similar to a screw; it may be hollow or solid, and normally consists of the fixture and the abutment.

Screw design
Common design for cylindrical endosseous dental implants; the screw shape allows for increased primary stability. The time of placement and the screw threads may provide additional load‐carrying capacity, although this has not been shown to be significant clinically.
