  • One‐stage implant placement

Protocol that involves one surgical procedure for implant placement. In the single stage, the osteotomy site is prepared, the implant is placed, and the transmucosal element exits the soft tissue. Use of a single‐stage implant eliminates the need for a second surgical procedure to expose the coronal portion of the implant.

  • One‐stage implant (syn)

Nonsubmergible implant, single‐stage implant. An endosseous dental implant designed to be placed following a one‐stage surgery protocol. The implant is designed with a transmucosal coronal portion. Usually the transmucosal portion and the implant is one piece with no microgap.

  • One‐stage grafting procedures

Grafting procedures combined with simultaneous implant placement; the remaining bone height must be sufficient for primary stability, and the defect must be self‐contained with at least two bone walls. Compare: Twostage grafting procedures.

  • One‐screw test

A test used to check the fit of a multiple unit screw‐retained restoration. One screw is placed in the terminal dental implant abutment. Evaluation is made on the opposite side. If the framework rises or has a ledge, detected clinically or radiologically, the fit is considered inaccurate.

  • One‐piece implant

A dental implant in which the endosseous and abutment portions consist of one unit.

  • One‐piece abutment

An abutment that connects into a dental implant without the use of an additional retaining screw. The abutment can be retained by cement, friction, or screw threads.

  • One‐part implant

A dental implant in which the endosseous and transmucosal portions consist of one unit which presents a surface without a joint (microgap) to the tissues.

  • Oncogene

A gene controlling cellular proliferation which, when altered through mutation or included in a viral genome, can promote neoplastic transformation or normal cells. A gene in a virus that can prompt a cell to turn malignant. A hypothetical gene that is passed from parent to offspring that has the potential of developing cancer. Genes carried…
