  • Occlusal embrasure

    The interdental space that is coronal to the interproximal contact between adjacent, contacting teeth in the same arch. The embrasure marked by the marginal ridge on the distal side of one tooth and that on the mesial side of the adjacent tooth, and the contact points.  

  • Occlusal disharmony

    An occlusal scheme that deviates from the ideal interactions of the occlusal contacts and anatomic components of the craniofacial complex.  

  • Occlusal balance

    A condition in which there are simultaneous contacts of opposing teeth or tooth analogues (i.e., occlusion rims) on both sides of the opposing dental arches during eccentric movements within the functional range.  

  • Occlusal analysis

    A systematic examination of the masticatory system with special consideration of the effect of occlusion on the teeth and their related structures.

    Pertaining to the contacting surfaces of opposing maxillary and mandibular posterior teeth, prostheses, or prosthetic baseplates with their associated wax rims. Denoting or relating to the horizontal surface of the premolars and molars, which comes into contact with the teeth of the opposite jaw when biting.  

  • Occluding relation

    The jaw relation at which the opposing teeth occlude.  

  • Occluding jaw record

    A registration record of maximum intercuspation.  

  • Occlude

    To bring together; to shut. To bring or close the mandibular teeth into contact with the maxillary teeth. To close up, obstruct, or join together, as bringing the biting surfaces of opposing teeth together.    

  • Obturator

    A structure that closes an opening, such as a prosthetic appliance used to close an opening in the palate.   • Obtundent

    An agent or remedy that lessens or relieves sensibility or pain. Soothing, deadening, dulling. Having the capacity to deaden sensibility of a part or reduce irritability.
