  • Physical dependency

    Having a physical addiction to a substance such as alcohol or tobacco.  

  • Percent body fat

    Term used in body composition assessment. It represents the total amount of fat in the body based on the person’s weight. It includes both essential and storage fat. Way a person interprets and mentally frames things; a person’s frame of reference.  

  • Passive stretch

    Flexibility exercise in which the stretch (lengthening) of the muscle(s) is created by an outside force such as a partner or gravity. Also known as an assisted stretch.  

  • Noninfectious

    Diseases that cannot be passed to another individual through casual contact.  

  • Nonessential fat

    Any body fat that is more than what we need for normal physiological function.  

  • Natural environment

    Everything nonhuman that surrounds and influences a person.  

  • Motivational syndrome

    Syndrome characterized by a loss of motivation, dullness, apathy, and no interest in the future.

    Headaches characterized by throbbing pain that can last for hours or days, sometimes accompanied by nausea and vomiting.   • Maximum heart rate formula

    Method of estimating the intensity range for an aerobic workout using a percentage (70 to 85 percent) of the maximum heart rate.  

  • Low impact aerobics

    Type of aerobics in which the participant keeps one foot on the floor at all times. It is often characterized by moderately paced, full range of motion movements with a lot of upper body work.
