Mindblown: a blog about philosophy.

  • Gynoid

Fat deposition characteristic of women, in whom fat tends to accumulate on the hips and thighs.

  • Fitness target zone

Optimum intensity range for exercise. The lower limit of the zone is the threshold of training; the upper limit is the maximum amount of exercise that is beneficial for health-related fitness.

  • Energy balance theory

Weight-loss theory that suggests that fat is stored when more energy is consumed than is expended.

  • Enabling actions

Actions by others that encourage or allow abusive activities that harm oneself or others.

  • Dysfunctional living

Situation in which an individual is unable to perform activities required for daily living, such as bathing, dressing, and eating.

  • Developmental stretch

The last segment of an activity session (usually considered part of the cool-down), in which flexibility exercises are used to reduce tension and elongate muscles.

  • Contemplators

People who are considering change. They are not only thinking about their current behavior but are also seriously considering making a change.

  • Body sculpting

Process of developing a well-proportioned physique. Body sculpting is part of body building but may also be offered as a noncompetitive class for people who want to tone and shape their muscles.

  • Barriers

Circumstances, events, and obstacles that keep us from succeeding in our efforts to change behaviors.

  • Assisted stretch

Type of stretching in which the individual pulls or pushes a body part or has a partner pull or push the body part until stretch is achieved.
