  • Foetal heart sounds

    The fetal heartbeats audible via the mother’s abdomen.  

  • Bottle sound

    A sound akin to the one created by blowing over a bottle’s neck, observed when a stethoscope is positioned over a cavity in the lung.  

  • Bellows sound

    A heart murmur resembling the sound of a bellows.  

  • Bell sound

    A bell-like or ringing noise audible through the stethoscope when a coin is tapped atop a chest affected by pneumothorax.  

  • Bandbox sound

    The echoing percussion noise produced in instances of emphysema.  

  • Funic souffle

    A sibilant noise observed in the abdominal region of a pregnant woman, believed to result from the circulation of blood through the baby’s umbilical cord.  

  • Foetal souffle

    A sound detected with a stethoscope, originating from the womb during pregnancy.  

  • Soroche

    Altitude sickness in the Andes, given its name because it was mistakenly thought to be caused by exposure to antimony (known as “soroche” in Spanish), which is mined in these mountainous regions.  

  • Soporiferous

    A substance that triggers deep and profound sleep.  

  • Soot cancer

    A type of scrotal cancer that affects chimney sweeps. The continuous exposure to soot in that area acts as an irritant on the skin and initiates the development of skin cancer between the legs.
