  • Vitamin D analogue

    Any medication that is chemically similar to or derived from vitamin D. Analogues of vitamin D are used to treat skin disorders such as psoriasis.  

  • Vita glass

    Window glass containing quartz for transmitting the ultraviolet rays of sunlight.  

  • Visuospatial

    Concerning the ability to discern spatial relationships from visual presentations.  

  • Visuopsychic

    Both visual and psychic, applied to the cerebral area involved in perception of visual sensations.  

  • Visuognosis

    The recognition and appreciation of what is seen.  

  • Visual object agnosia

    Loss of the ability to visually recognize objects presented, even though some degree of ability to see is intact.  

  • Functional visual loss

    A reduction in vision with no identifiable lesion of the visual pathways. It may be caused by an occult disease of the eye or of the optical centers in the brain. It may also occur in certain psychiatric disorders.  

  • Visual inspection with acetic acid

    Inspection of the surface of the uterine cervix after 5% acetic acid has been applied to it. VIA is a test sometimes used to determine whether the cervix is infected with human papilloma virus or whether irregularities seen on the cervix may be cancerous or precancerous.  

  • Visual-constructional apraxia

    The inability to assemble or draw an object after viewing its image or a model of it. This form of apraxia is commonly seen in patients with brain injuries or dementias with parietal lobe lesions.  

  • Visual cone

    The cone whose vertex is at the eye and whose generating lines touch the boundary of a visible object.
