Swelling of the optic disc of the eye, specifically due to raised intracranial pressure. It can be seen by examining the back of the eye using an ophthalmoscope and is an important sign in managing the care of patients with intracerebral disease such as tumours or meningitis.
The optic nerve’s head experiences swelling, a condition often referred to as optic disc edema. This nerve swelling can be observed using an ophthalmoscope. Typically, it signifies an alarming increase in intracranial pressure, which in some instances, might be due to a brain tumor.
