A class of animal viruses, e.g., SV40 and polyoma.
A family of viruses which start tumours, some of which are malignant, and some of which, such as warts, are benign.
One of a group of small DNA containing viruses producing tumors (usually malignant) in animals (subgroup polyoma viruses) and nonmalignant tumors in animals and man (subgroup papilloma viruses).
These include the human papilloma viruses (HPV), of which nearly a hundred strains have been identified. HPV cause verrucae on skin and, less often, on the mucous membranes of mouth, larynx, genitalia and the cervix. Some strains may predispose to eventual cancer, probably preventable by immunization.
Any of a group of viruses important in investigating viral carcinogenesis; including polyoma virus, simian virus 40 (SV 40), and papillomaviruses.
