A drug that relieves pain caused by urinary infections. Phenazopyridine (Prodium, Pyridium, Urobiotic, and others) is used to relieve the pain, burning, and discomfort associated with infection or irritation of the urinary tract. It works by temporarily anesthetizing the urinary tract and relieving symptoms. Phenazopyridine is not an antibiotic and, thus, does not kill the bacteria.
