Phenobarbitone

A barbiturate drug which is used as a sedative, a hypnotic and an anticonvulsant.

The British Pharmacopoeia name for one of the most widely used of all the group of drugs called barbiturates. It was mainly used in combination with phenytoin sodium as an anticonvulsant drug in the control of epilepsy, but has been superseded largely by newer and safer anti-epileptic drugs.
