Prednisolone

An intramuscular and intravenous glucocorticoid with an intermediate half‐life.


A synthetically produced steroid hormone, similar to cortisone, used especially to control inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis.

Glucocorticoid used to treat inflammatory conditions. Adverse effects include those associated with most of the corticosteroids, including fluid and electrolyte imbalances and gastrointestinal and endocrine disturbances.


An anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressant drug. Prednisolone (Prelone, Pediapred) is a corticosteroid, a cortisonelike drug that is used to treat severe inflammation in various parts of the body. Prednisolone lessens the inflammation and itching associated with allergic reactions. It is used to treat adrenocortical insufficiency as well as severe allergies, skin disorders, asthma, eye irritations, and arthritis. Prednisolone also helps to modify the body’s immune response to disease.


A synthetic corticosteroid used to treat rheumatic diseases and inflammatory and allergic conditions. It is administered by mouth, injected into joints, or applied in creams, lotions, and ointments (for skin conditions). Side-effects are those of cortisone.


A derivative of cortisone, which is five or six times as active as cortisone and has less of its salt- and water-retaining properties. Prednisolone is given by mouth.


A gluco-corticosteroid drug, available in a variety of dosage forms. It is similar in action to cortisone.
