Progressive muscular atrophy

Muscular dystrophy, with progressive weakening of the muscles, particularly in the pelvic and shoulder girdles.


A type of motor neuron disease in which the muscles of the hands, arms, and legs weaken and waste or atrophy. Involuntary twitching is another symptom. There is no cure for progressive muscular atrophy. This progressively debilitating condition eventually spreads to other muscles in t he body.


A form of motor neuron disease where the muscles in the hands, arms, and legs weaken, deteriorate, and experience involuntary twitching. As the muscle wasting progresses, it ultimately extends to other muscle groups.


Continuous muscle loss caused by the deterioration of specific cells in the spinal cord. This leads to the degeneration of the front nerve pathways and atrophy of the muscles they control. Also referred to as chronic anterior poliomyelitis.
