Proximal

Nearest or adjacent to the reference point.

Situated near a point of origin, the midline or attachment.

In dentistry; the tooth surface adjacent to another tooth.

Nearest to the point of attachment, basal.

Nearest; closer to any point of reference; opposed to distal.

Nearest the trunk or the point of origin. Usually expressed in relation to an extremity, but also any other structure so situated, distal.

Near the midline, the central part of the body.

Toward the center of the body.

Nearer to or toward an axis or center, as the trunk of the body.

In anatomy, the portion of a body part located nearest its point of origin or attachment, or close to the median line (center) of the body. For example, the proximal end of the femur, or thighbone, forms part of the hip joint. The opposite of proximal is distal.

Situated close to the origin or point of attachment or close to the median line of the body.

A term of comparison applied to structures which are nearer the centre of the body or the median line as opposed to more distal, or distant, structures. For example, the arm is proximal to the hand (likewise the hand is distal to the arm).

Nearest the point of attachment, center of the body, or point of reference; the opposite of distal.

A term used to denote a body part that is closer to a central point of reference, like the trunk.
