Psychoneuroses

Psychoneuroses refer to a broad category of functional clinical disorders that cause some disruption in the psyche but don’t have an organic origin. Symptoms can include feelings of anxiety and fear, emotional numbness, fixations, obsessions, and physical tension in various bodily systems. The distinction between psychoneurosis and psychosis is that individuals with psychoneurosis are generally aware of their symptoms and can, to some extent, engage with reality in a socially acceptable manner. In contrast, those with psychosis typically cannot.
