Salmeterol

A drug which relaxes and widens the airways, used to treat severe asthma.

An antisthma drug and a long-acting bronchodilator. Salmeterol (Serevent) is used with anti-inflammatory drugs to prevent asthma attacks. Salmeterol is unlike other drugs in its class (adrenergic bronchodilators), because it does not act quickly enough to relieve an attack of asthma that has already begun. The person with asthma uses an inhaler to breathe in salmeterol through the mouth to open up the airways in the lungs; it can be used to prevent exercise-induced asthma.

A long-acting β2-agonist used to treat patients with reactive airway disease. Its use is associated with decreased dependence on short-acting beta agonists, decreased nocturnal asthma, and decreased need for steroids in the treatment of asthma.

A medication classified as a bronchodilator, commonly employed for treating asthma. This drug is typically administered through inhalation twice daily to prevent asthma attacks. Possible side effects encompass mild tremors, restlessness, difficulty sleeping, and, on rare occasions, a rapid heartbeat.
