Salpingostomy

A surgical operation to open up a blocked Fallopian tube.


Surgically created opening in one or both fallopian tubes to restore patency that has been lost by chronic inflammation or to drain fluid.


A surgical procedure used to treat fallopian tubes that have become blocked at the end nearest nearest the ovary. In this procedure, the fingerlike projections at the end of the tube are opened outward. The edges of the opening of the tube are turned slightly down and stitched to keep the tube from closing up again. Salpingostomy is usually performed after an ectopic pregnancy, a pregnancy in which the fertilized egg has attached outside of the uterus.
