Salt depletion

Loss of salt from the body, by sweating or vomiting, which causes cramp.

Loss of salt from the body by vomiting, diarrhea, profuse perspiration, or urination without replacement.

Excessive loss of sodium chloride (common salt) from the body. This may result from sweating, persistent vomiting or diarrhea, or loss of fluid in wounds. The main symptoms are muscular weakness and cramps. Miners and workers in hot climates are particularly at risk, and salt tablets are often taken as a preventive measure.
