Saponification

The hydrolysis of mono-, di-, or triglyc- erides with caustic or alkali to form free glycerol and fatty acids in the form of soaps.

Alkaline hydrolysis of triacyl glycerols to yield fatty acid salts. The molecules thus produced are known as surfactants (surface active agents) commonly called soap. The process of soapmaking.

Conversion into soap; chemically, the hydrolysis or the splitting of fat by an alkali yielding glycerol and three molecules of alkali salt of the fatty acid, the soap.

The transformation into soap.
