Serine is a nonessential amino acid required for the production of the body’s proteins. Other functions of serine include the synthesis of ethanolamine and choline, which along with serine and inositol are used to produce various phospholipids. Serine can also be converted to the nonessential amino acid glycine. Potential ergogenic roles of serine have not been identified.
