The term “seronegative” refers to blood serum that has been tested for an infection and is found to lack antibodies against the particular pathogen being examined. The term can also signify the absence of autoantibodies, which are antibodies that target the body’s own cells, in certain conditions. For example, the absence of the rheumatoid factor in seronegative rheumatoid arthritis is an instance of this usage.
