A term used to describe a person whose previously positive test for an infection has changed to a negative finding, indicating no infection is currently present. This may occur, for example, in an infant born to an HIV-infected mother, whose antibodies are found in the newborn baby’s blood (giving it a positive test result). Once the mother’s antibodies disappear from the baby’s blood, the baby “seroreverts,” i.e. his or her blood (and thus the blood test) becomes negative for HIV antibodies.
