Serratia marcescens

An opportunistic bacterium that causes septicemia and pulmonary disease, especially in immunocompromised patients, and is found in water, soil, milk, and stools. In the proper environment, the organism will grow on food and produce the red pigment prodigiosin.

A gram-negative, facultatively anaerobic bacteria with red-pigmented varieties, occurring in water, soil, and food and in clinical specimens. It is an opportunistic pathogen, causing nosocomial bacteriemia, endocarditis, and pneumonia in immunocompromised patients.

A type of bacteria that is capable of living with or without oxygen, known for its red-colored variations, can be found in water, soil, food, and even in medical samples. This bacterium tends to take advantage of weakened immune systems and can lead to infections such as hospital-acquired blood infections, endocarditis, and pneumonia in immunocompromised individuals.
