Set-point

A general term for the level at which negative feedback tries to maintain the system.


The concept that homeostatic mechanisms maintain variables such as body temperature, body weight, blood glucose level, and hormone levels within a certain physiological range compatible with optimal function.


Set point is a fat amount or weight level that the body physiologically works to maintain. It is thought that the brain regulates a “weight thermostat” for the body’s metabolism. The set point can be altered, especially by engaging in regular exercise.


Theory Weight control theory that presumes that the body has an established weight and strongly attempts to maintain that weight.
