Spectroscope

An instrument used to analyse a spectrum.

An instrument used to split up light or other radiation into components of different wavelengths. The simplest spectroscope uses a prism, which splits white light into the rainbow colors of the visible spectrum.

An instrument for separating radiant energy into its component frequencies or wavelengths by means of a prism or grating to form a spectrum for inspection.

An apparatus that disperses light rays into colored bands using a prism. By introducing chemicals into the light’s path, it unveils dark lines or absorption bands in the resulting spectrum. This facilitates the swift identification of specific chemicals. Pathological laboratories often employ these devices to analyze the content of solutions positioned in the light path, studying the absorption bands. A comparable technique is employed to ascertain the chemical makeup of celestial bodies, such as stars.
