Sphenomandibular ligament

The ligament attached superiorly to the spine of the sphenoid and interiorly to the lingula of the mandible. The sphenomandibular ligament is a key part of the temporomandibular joint, helps support the weight of the mandible when the mandibular muscles are relaxed, and also controls and guides the swing of the mandible as it moves.
