The segment of the shaft of the humerus just distal to the greater and lesser tubercles. It is a region prone to fractures.
The constricted part of the shaft of the humerus below the tuberosities; commonly the site of fracture. Surgery is often indicated because of potential compromise of the density of neurovascular structures in this region.
