Systemic circulation

The circulation of blood around the whole body, except the lungs, starting with the aorta and returning through the venae cavae.

System of blood vessels (arteries, veins, and capillaries) that supplies all of the body except the lungs.

The system of blood vessels that supplies all parts of the body except the lungs. It consists of the aorta and all its branches, carrying oxygenated blood to the tissues, and all the veins draining deoxygenated blood into the vena cava. Compare pulmonary circulation.

The blood flow from the left ventricle through the aorta and all its arteries to the capillaries of the tissues and its return to the heart through veins and the venae cavae, which empty into the right atrium.

Carries the blood from the heart throughout the body and back to the heart.

The route that blood follows from the heart to most of the body and then back to the heart.

Blood vessels that do not participate in the transportation of blood to and from the lungs, instead connecting the right and left sides of the heart.
