The term used for local, tax-exempt barter currency in a concept initiated by Edgar Cahn. Individuals participating in a Time Dollar program earn Time Dollars by helping others. One Time Dollar is earned for each hour of volunteer service. A Time Dollar bank account is maintained formally for each participant, and it may be drawn upon by the participant for services by other participants. Also called service credits.
