Undescended testicle

Failure of a testicle to descend into the scrotum.

A condition in which one or both testicles fail to drop from inside the abdomen into the scrotum before birth; also called cryptorchidism.

Failure of one or both testicles to descend into the scrotum (the protective pouch that hangs behind the penis) before birth. Known as cryptorchidism, the condition is common in premature infants and also occurs in some full-term babies. In most cases, the testicles descend into the scrotum within the first 3 months of life, and no treatment is required.

The primary male reproductive hormone, one of the androgen hormones, produced primarily within the cells inside the testicles. Testosterone circulates within the bloodstream and is critically important to the maintenance of male reproductive and sexual development and function. It has an important role in a man’s bone and muscle growth, as well as in typical male physical characteristics, including facial hair, deepening of the voice, and increased muscle mass.
