Uric acid (urate)

A chemical created when the body breaks down purines, which are found in foods such as wine, beer, dried beans, and peas.

Uric acid is a standard component found in blood and urine, produced in the human body as a result of purine metabolism. In the case of gout, the body’s ability to process uric acid is impaired, leading to elevated levels of uric acid in the blood and reduced elimination of it. This often results in the accumulation of urate crystals in certain regions, most frequently affecting the joint of the big toe.
