Vaginal repair

Surgical repair or reconstruction of a vagina. In colporrhaphy, a prolapsed vaginal wall is repaired. More extensive surgery is performed after disease has necessitated surgical removal of the original vaginal tissue or when radiation has resulted in a loss of tissue. A reconstructed vagina is essential for a woman who wants to remain sexually active. Various surgical methods are used to restore the vagina, including one in which the skin of the labia is used to construct a new vagina.

A surgical procedure to fix the displacement of the vaginal wall, known as prolapse, may be performed. If the uterus is also prolapsed, this operation could be conducted alongside a vaginal hysterectomy, which is the surgical removal of the uterus and vagina.
