Ventriculography

A method of taking X-ray pictures of the ventricles of the brain after air has been introduced to replace the cerebrospinal fluid.

An X-ray study of the ventricles of the brain, involving the insertion of needles to withdraw fluid and inject air or gas.

X-ray examination of the ventricles of the brain after the introduction of a contrast medium, such as air or radio-opaque material.

The process of taking an X-ray photograph of the brain after the fluid in the lateral ventricles of the brain has been replaced by air; in this way any alteration in the outline of the ventricles (e.g. from pressure by a tumour) can be detected. The procedure has been largely rendered obsolete by MRI scanning.

An obsolete technique for visualizing the brain radiographically, that relied on the injection of air into the cerebrospinal fluid. It has been replaced by CT and MRI scans of the brain.
