Vesiculography

An X-ray examination of the seminal vesicles.

X-ray examination of the seminal vesicles. This is usually performed by injecting radio-opaque contrast material into the exposed vasa deferentia. It can also be undertaken by inserting a catheter into the ejaculatory duct (which discharges semen from the vesicle into the vas deferens) via an ‘endoscope. This examination is rarely undertaken for the specific purpose of outlining the seminal vesicles; it is more commonly performed to test for the patency of the vas deferens in patients with azoospermia.

Radiography of the seminal vesicles after the injection of a contrast medium. This procedure has been replaced by ultrasound imaging.
