Vestibulitis

Recurring inflammation of the external genitals in females. The most common symptoms are a burning sensation around the opening of the vagina and extreme pain during sexual intercourse. Some women find it painful to insert tampons. Vestibulitis often disappears suddenly and then reappears a few months later. It can become chronic and persistent. The most common causes of vestibulitis are chemical irritants, such as soap, deodorant, shampoo, bubble bath, and fabric softener. Depending on the source of the inflammation, treatment may include antibiotics or other medication.

Recurring inflammation of the area of the external genitals just outside the vagina. Vestibulitis occurs most often in sexually active women of childbearing age. The most common symptoms are a burning sensation around the opening of the vagina and extreme pain during sexual intercourse. Some women find it painful to insert tampons. Vestibulitis is known to disappear suddenly, only to reappear a few months later. It can become chronic and persistent and is sometimes so painful that women are unable to engage in sexual activity.

Inflammation can occur in the nasal vestibule, which is the inner part of the nasal cavity located just within the nostril. It can also develop in the region between the labia minora within the vulva. This typically happens due to a bacterial infection.
